This is a very soft, thick #4 weight worsted yarn, it is thicker than Red Heart.
I am also a spinner and this yarn reminded me of hand spun yarn with slight changes in thickness throughout. There were several spots that were "overspun" and other spots that weren't spun enough. I had to cut out a few large sections of the yarn because it was already fuzzy and looked like it had been through a couple of washes, but was able to hand twist it enough to use for the seams.
The Pattern I used it on is the Short Mesh Vest in a size medium. My gauge came out correct with a slightly tighter tension than I use with Red Heart or other #4 weight yarns similar to Red Heart. This created a stiffer feel in the stitches, but still very soft.
This vest used about 4 1/2 skeins, so about 747 yards for a size medium.
Overall, I really like the feel of this acrylic yarn and enjoyed working with it and believe it would be perfect for a garment that needs some extra thickness without having to use a bulky yarn.
nice
ReplyDeleteI didn't get the nice yarn in my kit from Annies so I'm trying a red heart #4 yarn. The 90 or 80 first row chains result in an overly wide back. Im using a 6.0/J hook and the piece is over 24 inches wide. Is the finished circumference about 48" for a medium?
ReplyDeleteLiz C - The 1st thing I would do is check your gauge
ReplyDeleteIn Pattern - 8 (dc, ch 1 spaces) x 7 rows = 4 inches
A size medium is 36 - 38
